AWESDI, a systemic approach to Wave Energy deployment

The Atlantic Area has one of the highest wave energy potentials in Europe, yet deployment remains limited. This is not only a technological challenge, but the result of interconnected barriers, including fragmented regulatory frameworks, environmental and social considerations, and economic viability.

Wave energy development requires more than innovation in devices. It depends on the alignment of multiple dimensions — technical, environmental, socio-economic and governance — to ensure sustainable and accepted deployment pathways. AWESDI addresses these challenges through a systemic and evidence-based approach. By combining integrated assessment methodologies, pilot experience under real Atlantic conditions and structured stakeholder engagement, the project supports informed decision-making and coordinated action across regions.

Through transnational cooperation, AWESDI contributes to building a shared understanding of wave energy deployment and to creating the conditions for its sustainable integration into the energy systems of Atlantic coastal regions.
